![]() ![]() Instead of renting facilities from schools, we are co-designing equity-centered programs together. Moving forward, we are shifting from a transactional relationship with schools, to a transformational one. The choice and shift we have to make moving forward is difficult, but also very clear. The state of California has become a huge catalyst for equity in the out-of-school time space. Thanks to this funding, and other donations, almost 80% of campers attended EDMO completely free last summer. Programs can be offered to all students but they must provide access to high-priority students first. ELO-P mandates that public school districts and charter schools provide their most vulnerable students with enriching, 9-hour per day programs for 180 school days and 30 “intersession” days during school breaks or summer. Last year, California announced historic funding for the Expanding Learning Opportunity Programs, or ELO-P a $4 billion investment in summer and after-school learning programs. We have implemented paradigm shifts like our honor system pricing aimed at dismantling systemic inequities and oppressive structures that keep families from experiencing the magic of camp. Over the last three years we have taken time to reflect on how our programs, culture and impact align with our mission of providing equitable access to out-of-school learning experiences for kids. When we started EDMO 18 years ago, our goal was to ensure that all kids had access to high-quality out-of-school learning opportunities. ![]() READ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Our Journey to Creating More Equity We sincerely thank you for your support as we embark on this new chapter of EDMO. We hope to see your kiddo in one of our programs soon or you can also support us today by donating to our cause. View our current list of Summer 2023 partners here - if you don't see your school, we may be finalizing our partnership. If EDMO after-school or summer programming is something you’d like to see at your kiddo’s school, reach out to local school officials and encourage them to visit our website. This doesn’t have to mean goodbye! You too can join us and be a force for equity. As of January 2023, EDMO will be closing all online programming and public, in-person camps, and will transition to a model in which we only partner with schools and districts. ![]()

Where Does Our Pure Mountain Spring Water Come From? ![]() The "twisted transistor" may represent the pain and confusion that this person is experiencing, but it can also be seen as a metaphor for the creative potential that can come out of suffering. The line "Your screams will whisper, hang on you twisted transistor" suggests that even when we are in pain and want to give up, there is still a voice inside us that fights for survival. The refrain "music do" emphasizes the transformative power of music, and how it can connect with us on a deep, emotional level. The lyrics suggest that this person can find solace in music, which is portrayed as a rebellious force that can heal them and give them the strength to keep going. The song is addressed to someone who is going through a tough time in their life, possibly feeling misunderstood and neglected by others. ![]() The song "Twisted Transistor" by KoRn is known for its powerful and defiant message of using music as a means to escape from the pain and loneliness of life. ![]() With the technology in place, options are endless - from wearable computers for gaming, or clothing that can discretely monitor the vital signs of the wearer.A lonely life where no one understands you These are just two examples of ongoing research that will one day make wearable tech a lot more popular. Harvesting electrical energy from human motion is one strategy for eliminating the need for batteries! Haines and his colleagues see twistron as a possible solution to one of the major hurdles facing developers of wearable tech. The scientists calculated that stretching them 30 times a second produced around 240 watts of power per kilogram of yarn. The tighter the yarns were twisted, the closer together the electric charges embedded in them became, increasing their energy output. To create the basic structure for their invention, Haines and his team compiled component nanotubes (carbon tubes 10,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair) coated them with electrolytes and finally twisted them together. Stretchy nanotube yarn could be woven into shirt fabrics to power wearable tech, as the twistron sources electrical energy from the body’s motion and heartbeat. Dubbed the “ twistron,” the yarn generates electricity when stretched or twisted. There may be an interesting solution to charging wearable tech…a separate team, led by Carter Haines of the University of Texas, has created a type of yarn constructed from carbon nanotubes. Many designs and uses of wearable tech are constrained by the electronic components needing to be removable to avoid the potential hazards of system failure or electrocution. The fact that the transistor can handle being washed (presumably alongside ordinary fabrics) is extraordinary. In experiments, the device continued to work without interruption after being repeatedly bent, twisted and immersed in a strong detergent solution. The transistor is made of a double-stranded assembly of electrode microfibres inside an organic semiconductor sheath. However, a new transistor shows a lot of promise for advancements in this field.Īs Andrew Masterson reports at Cosmos Magazine, “a newly invented fibrous organic transistor coated in a crystalline nanostructure looks set to revolutionise the rapidly growing field of wearable tech.” It was designed by a team from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology. Wide spread adoption of wearable tech is hindered by a few fundamentals – for one, wearable tech needs to be physically flexible…and washable. While GlobalData expects market growth will be driven by sales of ever-evolving smartwatches, wearable tech also includes medical apparatuses, gaming gear and safety devices. In fact, GlobalData estimates that the wearable tech industry was worth nearly $23 billion in 2018 and forecasts it to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 19% to reach $54 billion by 2023. We have discussed “wearable tech” previously here, but the technology keeps getting better and better –like technology that will be indistinguishable from clothing fabric. ![]() A soft gum eraser or a “big pink” eraser (like the eraser on the end of a pencil but larger) are both great, low-cost choices. The PCs and consoles found in the arcade can be rented by the hour or for a full day. This model adds to the authenticity of the place compared to the usual ‘fee at the door’ model found at most classic arcades these days. Most machines are priced at 1 or 2 tokens per play, with just a few larger or new games costing 3 or 4 tokens.
